WDSD Geneva 2018

"What I bring to my community"

Thank You

For World Down Syndrome Day 2018, Down Syndrome International supported people with Down syndrome to speak up about their rights at the United Nations in Geneva.

20 March - Interactive preparatory workshop for persons with Down syndrome and advocates:

- What is community and what are our gifts and strengths?

- How can we contribute? Focus on employment and political participation.

- What enables us to contribute and participate in our community?

21 March - Event at the Palais des Nations, the home of the United Nations Human Rights Office in Geneva. An opportunity for people with Down syndrome to speak up on the theme "What I bring to my community".

We reached out to UN Member State government representatives and UN officials, to ensure that they see how people with Down syndrome can and do make meaningful contributions to the community throughout their lives.

We hope to encourage these key stakeholders to disseminate this message, bring about positive change and ensure people with Down syndrome have opportunities to contribute and have their human rights guaranteed.
